German Betting Licences Set To Miss World Cup Kick Off

April 3, 2014 News & Reports

By Daniel Macadam

German operators yesterday said that sports-betting licences will not be issued in time for this summer’s football World Cup, with many looking ahead to 2015 instead.

Commercial and state operators alike at a conference in Berlin dismissed any hopes that the coveted 20 licences would be active ahead of kick off in Brazil this June.

“No question. It will not happen,” Heinz-Georg Sundermann, managing director of Lotto Hessen, told GamblingCompliance.

Brand-New Springer Publication on European Gambling Law

March 11, 2014 News & Reports

Empirical Views - Simon PlanzerHighly respected Springer International Publishing is releasing these days a monograph on European Gambling Law. The book “Empirical Views on European Gambling Law and Addiction” provides a comprehensive analysis of and a novel view on gaming law in the EU/EEA.

Dr Simon Planzer, a lecturer in law and gaming lawyer specialising in European and Swiss gaming law authored the book. His work offers a new perspective on gaming at the intersection of law and science.

In addition, the book offers an empirical perspective by verifying whether key findings in the case law are actually supported by empirical evidence on addiction. The causes and consequences of the Court of Justice’s special approach to gaming services are then explained. … Continue Reading

SPONSORs Sports Gaming Summit

March 7, 2014 News & Reports

“First Schleswig-Holstein goes it alone, then the E-15 treaty is signed, and finally the Hessian Ministry of the Interior rejects all remaining betting licence applications. Annoyance, uncertainty and a lack of understanding prevails – so what happens now with the licences, new technologies, sponsorship and financing of popular sports? There is an urgent need for discussion. And it is for exactly this reason that the industry will now come together in Berlin.”

This is the content of the SPONSORs Sports Gaming Summit on 31st March in Berlin in whose context the members of GamingLaw.eu will explicitely discuss the Fantasy League topic.

Quirino, Justin, Santiago and Wulf are covering the panel “The Fantasy League, an international comparison: markets, masses, millions” at 10:35am.
