On Friday 2 February 2018 Kalff Katz & Franssen’s Gaming Practice group again hosted the Annual Gaming Industry Event, traditionally held at the Koninklijke Industrieele Groote Club in Amsterdam. The event was this year co-hosted with the International Masters of Gaming Law.

An influential member of parliament is predicting that German online gambling legislation will be proposed this year and passed
within 18 months, with the only question being whether it is “big reform or small reform”.
Four German states — Schleswig-Holstein, Hesse, Bavaria and North Rhine-Westphalia — are working seriously to come up with
proposals that will please all parties, including state governments, lotteries and operators seeking to offer both sports betting and
casino online, said Patrick Sensburg, a member of parliament from North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany’s largest and most influential state.

IN 2015, AFTER years of back-and-forth negotiations, the European Commission reached an agreement on the text of the new
European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), replacing the out-of-date Data Protection Directive adopted in 1995.
The aim of the GDPR is to unify data protection laws across EU member states and place greater emphasis on accountability. Although many of its key points are similar to those currently in place, the new law has some far reaching and more meaningful implications.
