Gambling Compliance: Germany’s Sports-Betting Plans Progress Despite EC Concerns

The European Commission has blasted Germany’s new sports-betting licensing plans for potentially infringing EU law and limiting competition, but Germany is nevertheless expected to ink the changes in just a few days.

With draft amendments having completed their standstill period at the commission last Friday, the prime ministers of the German states plan to sign the new Interstate Treaty on Gambling on Thursday this week.

Gambling Compliance: Germany Moves To Exclude Slots From AML Checks

Slot halls, lotteries and on-course tote betting will be exempt from strict new anti-money laundering (AML) requirements, according to a bill published in Germany last week.

The bill will transpose the European 4th Anti-Money Laundering Directive (4th AMLD) into German law and has been published following a consultation with stakeholders last December.

German telecoms body calls for far-reaching changes to iGaming legislation

Germany’s association of telecommunications and media businesses (DVTM) has called on the country’s State Prime Ministers to continue work on a revised State Treaty on Gambling by developing a practical framework for the oversight of iGaming.
